The Macedon Ranges is in a designated high risk bush fire zone.
On days of extreme fire danger fires occurring in or around the area have the potential to spread rapidly with devastating effect.
In 1983 fires pushed by strong SW winds destroyed both Macedon and Mt Macedon.
On days of significant fire danger, all residents and visitors to the area need to be aware of any developing fire activity in the area.
It is up to you- don’t expect someone to knock on your door to let you know.
In the event of a significant fire in the area there are a number of avenues to look towards for further information.
These include…
- Listening to radio stations such as 3AW or 774 ABC radio
- Television news bulletins
- CFA Warning and Information webpage
- Phoning the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667
Remember : STAY CALM, PUT YOUR BUSHFIRE READINESS PLAN INTO ACTION AND DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO ACT. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO LEAVE, DO SO WELL BEFORE THE FIRE COMES CLOSE TO YOU.
