The five Gisborne members sent up to N.S.W are safe and in good spirits.
Their first task on Saturday was to back burn a large area to pull up any fire heading in that particular direction.
Yesterday (Sunday) the weather turned for the worst with hot temperatures and strong winds fuelling the fires. They were tasked to protect life and property in the town of Bell as erratic and unpredictable fire behaviour was displayed due to extreme weather conditions.
After a tough day on the job they made it back to camp safe and sound.
We will keep the Gisborne and wider community updated through Facebook and our website.
