Monday morning (8th July) Gisborne’s LP Gas emergency response unit was deployed to Kyneton, after a car hit black ice and had spun out of control into a guard rail and caught fire.
The car lost control when crossing a overpass just out of Kyneton near the Calder FWY. The overpass had formed black ice, after moisture on the road surface froze over due to freezing temperatures below zero.
Kyneton Fire Brigade contained the fire to the engine compartment, and requested Gisborne LP Gas unit to respond due to the car being on gas and the fact that the supply lines could have been compromised from the fire.
LP Gas specialist firefighter Tom Ruff said his crew worked to ensure the gas cylinder had not been compromised and checked for leaks along the supply line to the engine.
“Our crew ensured the gas cylinder had been isolated and also turned off the supply line. Once I was happy that there were no leaks, we vented the supply line to remove the gas hazard”. FF Ruff, said.
