Macedon Ranges has been identified as a high risk this summer with Victorians advised to brace for a dangerous fire season.
Fire restrictions are expected to begin from December 10 in the Macedon Ranges and all residents are urged to prepare now by cleaning up now around their properties.
Local fire fighters are ramping up for a busy fire season, with regular training paramount for a high state of readiness.
“Talk to your family about what you’re going to do on a hot, dry, windy high fire risk day.
Never underestimate the danger of fire in and around the Macedon Ranges” says Gisborne CFA’s Lt Peter Harry.
“Fire is a threat to not only those living in bush areas, but also residents living in new housing estates or the town fringes adjoining grassy paddocks and farm land.
Grass fires can travel up to 20-30 kmh, so it could be at your doorstep before you know it. Waiting until you can see fire is too late”.
The summer fire season has already begun with several grassfires across the State, with a house threatened at Little River, and one at Casterton burning more than 1500 hectares.
CFA’s website has a range of information available too.
