Training -All Year Round

Cold winters don’t stop training. Fire fighters need to maintain skills at a range of incidents, and like most CFA members we train throughout the year.

On the weekend, fire fighters from Gisborne and surrounding brigades headed up to Huntly (near Bendigo) to hone their fire fighting skills at CFA’s Northern District Training Ground.

The day was made up of simulated incidents which included a motor vehicle accident with powerlines down and persons trapped, car fire at a service station and a house fire with occupants still inside. Members each had a chance to work on their skills as Incident Controller, crew leader and BA (breathing apparatus) operator,

” Having the opportunity to attend these training sessions are invaluable for our firefighters as they not only get to refine their skills in a controlled environment, but they still get to see real flame and feel the heat as they would in a real life incident” said Comms officer Bevan Moody.

A great day was had by all who attended.

Meanwhile wildfire fire fighter training is underway for five new recruits at Gisborne. At the end of the course, the new members will be ready to respond.
