Championship Run Down

Gisborne fire fighter Joel Wood (far right) recently represented the Brigade at the VFBV State Urban Championships held in Shepparton.

The annual event draws competitors from across the State and involves traditional fire fighting skill events that date back more than a century ago.

Joel said he was invited to run with a team from Kyneton and has been training with them since mid-season.

“It has given me a chance to make friends with CFA members from all over, plus enjoy the thrill of competition”.

Gisborne veteran runner Bruce Harker was also an official for the event over the weekend.

Events included Ladder 5’s (4th), Hose reel 6’s (5th), Y Coupling & Ladder 8’s (5th), and Champion 4’s.-

The championships are an ideal opportunity for members interested in keeping fit and improving their fire fighting skills in a competitive environment. Through these competitions, members develop a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie. The Championships are also an opportunity for members to showcase their firefighting skills and talent.
